I have a power productivity tip that I want to share with you today and when you hear what it is, you might sigh. Well, you'll likely sigh because you've heard it before. But, stay with me if you can because you likely have not heard it applied in the way that I am going to show you. Once you're done reading this, you'll understand how it can help you take inspired action very quickly and get those important tasks crossed off of your list.
You with me still? Okay good.
So, the POWER productivity tip I want to talk about today is getting organized daily. When I say get organized, it doesn't necessarily mean start organizing your file folders, or de-clutter your closets, although those things are nice too. What I mean is to get your thoughts organized, and to do this on a daily basis. Quickly, I want to mention that doing it daily reinforces the "practice" side of things and if you know my work, you know how important practice is to doing it all. Practice takes away the energy it takes to think about what you have to do. It allows you to just do it. Kind of like brushing your teeth every morning or when you put no thought into making your morning coffee or tea.
But at the heart of this power productivity tip is the getting organized part.
I want to inspire you to wake up every morning and and spend just 10 minutes to get your thoughts organized. Here's how it could look.
Does it seem like the world around us has started to spin faster?
In today’s world it is hard to slow down long enough to create time for yourself. With work, kids, meetings, laundry, (I think you get it), your to-do list can feel like it is never-ending, and continuously growing by the minute, leaving you feeling stressed and frustrated.
In order to work in your Genius zone and stay focused so that you can live the life you want, you will need to take back your life and create meaningful time and space for YOU! As women, we have maternal instincts that tell us that we need to take care of everyone and everything around us. We are naturally nurturing beings. But, this instinct can sometimes take over and leave us having neglected our ourselves. In reality, if you spend just a little time focusing on yourself, you will be re-energized, focused, and able to take on life and all of the crazy, awesome challenges it brings.
How you ask?
I am evolving.
For those who know me and follow me, visually, you see the evolution with my new header image and a business name. But, it's more than that. I am PERSONALLY evolving on so many levels and this is a reflection of that evolution. The process getting here, I'm not going to lie, has been exhausting and excruciating at times. But, it has also been fascinating and perfect in its own way. Perfect because I needed this to happen in exactly the way that it did.
I knew the evolution was coming. It was only a matter of time.
Happy Friday! I love Friday's mostly because I recap all that I've done and it feels good to "close" things up for the week and take a deep sigh of accomplishment. It doesn't ALWAYS look like that, but when I really use the tools and support I have acquired over the past 1.5 years...I can do it all with ease and grace.
I want to share my top 10 tools and apps that I use to make sure things go smoothly for me every week.
But before I do that, for those of you in Santa Fe, New Mexico...SAVE THE DATE! The next Success Circle is on Wednesday, March 25 from 10am to 11am. I have a location confirmed and the email with details will go out soon.
Okay, now back to the top 10 tools/apps/software I use to stay motivated, productive and centered so I can DO IT ALL with ease and grace every week.
So, this week, I wanted to share a SUCCESS TIP with you. Today's SUCCESS TIP is to set a daily intention. I wanted to share this with you because I always get asked, "Rubina, how do you stay motivated to do your work in your business on top of everything else going on?" I have many things I do on a daily basis that helps to keep me moving forward in my business. I do a lot of planning, organizing, journaling but I've noticed more and more that the one thing that REALLY gives me great energy and motivation to keep things moving forward on a daily basis is my Morning Intention Practice, also known as my daily MIP.
What is the daily MIP and how can you use it to give you the motivation you need to get things done? The daily MIP is 1 minute of intense focus and meditation. It's where you set a timer (I use the Insight Timer app on my phone) and you ask yourself, "What is my intention for today?" The key here is to not pick anything that is extremely work related. For instance, a not so supportive intention is "to get through my entire to do list!" While a more supportive intention would be "To feel accomplished and a sense of joy throughout my day." This kind of intention is what helps provide that extra umph to get through that humongous to do list. Also, it allows you to do what's necessary to feel accomplished and feel joy in your day. So even if you don't get through the entire to do list, you still will have the motivation and support from within to get through the most important things that will help move the business forward.
Finally, setting an intention at the top of your day sets the tone for the rest of the day. If you start your day feeling overwhelmed and all you can think about is how long your list is, you'll give up before you start. Instead, a dialogue very similar to this might play in your head..."It shouldn't feel this hard and no one should work this hard, so you deserve to relax Rubina! You have all those shows you've been wanting to watch, let's take the morning off and do a show marathon today." Okay, so that's what happens in my head, but, you get the point!
I suggest you set aside 1 minute every day to do the Daily MIP so that you can stay motivated but also to move gently and lovingly through the day.
Here's to your brilliance!
I went to a networking event today. Another one where you come, you sit, you listen, you give your cards to the people on either side of you. The topic was somewhat interesting but nothing I couldn't live without. I did however meet two interesting people (the two sitting on either side of me) and I was truly grateful that I had the chance to talk to them, to start to build a relationship with them. One thing I know, most everyone that refers work or other opportunities are people I have relationships with. Relationships lead to trust.
Typical networking events aren't designed to help us build relationships. Which is why I am launching the Success Circles.
Here’s what success looks like for me:
It's Monday morning and I’ve been up since before 6 am. I have already meditated, journaled, helped my husband Jonathan get ready for work, and dropped our daughter Leah off at school. Now I'm jamming my favorite Pandora station, and writing. I work until 2 pm, then turn my attention back to my family. I prepare a nutritious and (hopefully) delicious home-cooked meal, play with Leah, get her ready for bed, then spend time connecting with Jonathan. I spend about 30 minutes checking and responding to emails, and organizing for the following day in the KanbanFlow project management tool. Finally, I read a book or watch a show (or maybe do a moon salutation) then head to bed by 10.
This is not an idealized scenario of how I would like to live my life. This is how I am actually living, right now. Like everybody, I have days where everything doesn’t go as I would like – but for the most part, I live my life without scrambling or feeling stressed. I have enough time for my family, for my friends, for my work and for myself. In other words, I have made space for what I truly love.
I have to get this off my chest...because I have been watching more and more videos and reading more and more articles aimed at women entrepreneurs about pricing your services and products based on what you think you are worth. Often times the line between professional work and personal worth are blurred in these messages. Basically, these "gurus" beg you to raise your prices because you should "feel" like you are worth more. You charge $75 an hour now for your consulting...well you are worth more like $125 an hour.
That's capital B S. Let me tell you why.
A couple nights ago, I spoke as a conversation starter in a group of 30+ women on the topic of confidence. As a conversation starter, I shared how as a coach for Women Entrepreneurs this is something that comes up with every single woman. And guess what, it comes up, for me almost on a daily basis. It used to be that it was at the forefront of my thinking...waking up and going to sleep every day in fear and without purpose. Even last night self-doubt crept in, this voice inside me that said "who are you to be sitting here talking to women about confidence?" Then, I reminded myself in a bigger inner voice, that I am absolutely the right one to be sitting here."
There are days when confidence flows effortlessly through us, and there are days when we fight to feel even just an ounce of confidence compared to the self-doubt we are facing. There are ebbs and flow, moments of strength and weakness, and the highs and lows. But, I have found that there are ways to keep confidence strong and flowing for longer periods of time rather than the occasional surge. These are my top 5, tried and true, ways to cultivate and build confidence and keep it around. I've found these to be especially helpful after I've had setbacks, both small and major ones.
